Discerning Eye, a full-service optical boutique, is proud to announce that its first Eye Gave Back Campaign has raised $5,000 – $2,000 more than the original goal – for the Johnson County Crisis Center Food Bank. The donation will be used to purchase approximately five tons of food for the Center.

The campaign ran from Nov.19 to Dec. 31, 2007 and allowed Discerning Eye customers to designate a portion of their purchases to be donated to the Food Bank. Customers also had the option of receiving an Iowa City/Coralville area gift certificate in lieu of the donation.

Last year Discerning Eye donated $5,000 to the Johnson County Crisis Center.

Discerning Eye owner, Joni Schrup said she was thrilled with the outcome. "It was amazing to see how many people were willing to give back to the Crisis Center," Schrup said.

Schrup noted that more than 90 percent of Discerning Eye’s customers decided to donate during the giving campaign.

"We want to thank Discerning Eye and its customers for the creative yet simple way they gathered this $5,000 gift for the Crisis Center. Successful partnerships like this are a great example of neighbors helping neighbors" said Ross Wilburn, executive director of the Crisis Center.

Schrup said the Eye Gave Back Campaign will become an annual event at Discerning Eye, with a new goal for December 2008. "This year’s event was more successful than we could have imagined because of the generosity of our customers,” Schrup said. "With their support, we know we can reach our goal of raising $6,000 for the Crisis Center during next year’s campaign."
